So as a matter of opinion, i want look into replacing the diff with the V6 unit. Drums vs Discs.
can this be done if the ratios are the same? as we have spare yards here and theres afew V6`s looking sad.
Can't tell you about the diffs I'm afraid. I have looked into the gear ratios and especially the final drive ratio of the TSI vs the TDIs.
2013 Amarok ratios (from VW brochure)
2020 Amarok 2.0TDI ratios (from VW brochure)
2020 Amarok V6 ratios (from VW brochure)
The good news (from my perspective) is that the TSI and TDI ratios are pretty close. I will be attempting a AWD manual transplant from a BiTDI to the TSI at some point in the future.
Pity that they don't publish the final drive ratio of the V6 is that will give you some indication as to the diff's ratio compared to the 2.0 TDIs
I'd be looking at ETKA or similar for detailed info for the diff ratios though.

You would be best to go with a manual 120kw/400nm diff, the auto diff is too tall for in 6th gear unless your doing 110kph+ and not too hilly. The lower gears aren't too bad but its not ideal at any point really. the 4.1's from the manual 400nm utes would be ideal as you get to load the turbo up a little more and you get a slightly better hwy cruising rpm.
the auto diff will also throw out your digital gear indicator and the cruise won't work in 6th gear as the car doesn't recognise the gears properly. Having a play with the speedo/wheel size options in the VCDS may overcome this though.
On the topic of Amarok diffs, was wondering if anyone knew how the Amarok rear diff lock system works? Is it just an electronic brake actuated style or a true mechanical lockable diff center?
2013 TSI300 2wd I just purchased wasn't optioned with a rear diff lock and I was hoping I could add this now.
I have it and believe it is a mechanical lock. That is how it was sold to me and I can confirm that locking it and using the power from standstill will leave 2 black lines on the road ..... I don't think the electronic diffs can do that

I so need to find a sponsor for my APR, dying to unleash my TSI, wonder on the S/C how tail happy it will be. ANY takers
Me too mate, I think the single cab would be very tail happy with the extra power. Already the stock motor has a fair bit of go for such a big ute.
I'll be looking at a tune for mine in a few months, the APR dealer I spoke with here in Melbourne said APR are revising their tune prices in the near future (cheaper) so that will make it even better bang for buck!!
Good tyres makes a difference to how much grip you will have. The stickier (and more expensive unfortunately) the better. Recently fitted Conti MaxContacts (18") after the Conti SportContacts and it had less than half the grip IMO. Became tail happy and actually hard to drive. Switched to good 19"s and the grip is back! Cannot unstick the rear unless you drop the clutch at 4000+ or in the very wet.
